UAY offers a free professional digital recording studio to all Junior High and High School aged youth. UAY's Recording Studio is connected to a jam room that can be used for and band practice, rehearsals and voice recordings at the Swaim Youth Center located in downtown Iowa City. In addition to providing a free space to make music, UAY also offers access to guitar, drums, bass, vocal and keyboard music lessons.

Battle of the Bands
The Iowa City Public Library, The Englert Theatre, and United Action for Youth are hosting a Battle of the Bands at UAY (355 Iowa Ave). All musical styles are welcome and encouraged. We want to see all of the area's best talent in hiphop, rock, folk, you name it! The event will be May 10th at UAY. All performers should come prepared to do a ten minute set. The top three performers will be called back to perform one last song to compete for the top spot. There will be food, prizes, and local celebrity judges to be announced at a later date. A recording of the event will be made and provided to you.
