Intervention Programs
Education. Empowerment. Healthy Choices.
Intervention extends beyond the walls of our Youth Center. Through partnerships with local schools, families, and community organizations, UAY provides education, resources, and supportive spaces that help young people make informed decisions, navigate challenges, and build healthy relationships.
Our approach is rooted in honest conversations, practical knowledge, and meeting young people with compassion rather than judgment.
Health Education & Resources
Knowledge is empowering.
UAY's Health Educator works directly with local schools, bringing age-appropriate health education into classrooms and creating opportunities for open, honest conversations about personal health and well-being.
Topics include:
-
personal hygiene
-
sexual and reproductive health
-
reproductive rights
-
healthy decision-making
Beyond classroom education, our Health Educator is available to young people seeking information, guidance, or resources related to their health. We also offer access to reproductive health supplies.
Our Health Educator also works alongside UAY's other programs to ensure young people can access information and support when they need it.
Have a Sexual Health Question? Text Us!
319-853-8282
Our anonymous, text-only line gives young people a safe, judgment-free way to ask questions about sexual health, explore community resources, and learn more about available UAY services.
We believe that one mistake should not define a young person's future.
UAY's Pre-Charge Diversion program provides eligible young people facing a first-time offense with an opportunity for education, reflection, and accountability outside of the traditional court process.
Through educational sessions and supportive conversations, participants learn about potential legal consequences, explore healthier decision-making, discuss harm reduction, and consider the impact of their choices.
We also recognize that navigating these experiences can be difficult for families. Our program offers parents and caregivers a supportive, nonjudgmental space to ask questions, better understand the process, and support their young person moving forward.
At its heart, Pre-Charge Diversion is about creating opportunities for growth, accountability, and positive change.

School-Based Groups & Education
Building skills. Strengthening connections.
Through partnerships with local schools, UAY facilitates supportive group experiences that give young people space to connect, learn, and navigate the challenges of growing up.
Groups may explore topics such as:
-
Conflict Resolution: Developing communication skills, managing disagreements, and navigating difficult situations.
-
Healthy Relationships: Understanding boundaries, respect, communication, and positive connections with others.
-
Social & Emotional Development: Building self-awareness, confidence, and skills for navigating everyday challenges.
-
Open Discussion & Peer Connection: Creating welcoming spaces where young people can share experiences, ask questions, and feel heard.
Our school-based programming is responsive to the needs of students and school communities, allowing us to address relevant topics and create meaningful opportunities for connection and growth.
