United Action for Youth (UAY) is a nonprofit organization which has been supporting young people and families in Johnson County and surrounding areas since 1970.

UAY works with young people and their families through PREVENTION and INTERVENTION services to help them reach their goals.

Prevention Programming consists of out of school activities that encourage youth to connect and express themselves through creativity.

Intervention Programming offers support, advocacy, counseling, and community referrals to youth and families facing adversity.

We believe all young people deserve to be valued

and to have a voice.

Testimonials

Dina

Dina was a participant of our Teen Parent Program and our Transitional Living Program. She gave us permission to share her UAY story with the hope that it will help others get through a difficult time. “I’m originally from Africa, but my family moved to Michigan when I was young. When I turned 18, I moved to Iowa City with my boyfriend and my two-year-old daughter. I didn’t know anyone else here.

Lindsi

Meet Lindsi. “I came to UAY as an angry 13 year old. My mom made me come with her for a tour of the UAY Youth Center. I was not happy about it and was very determined to hate everything about the place. I hated school because it was hard for me and every day I went, I felt anxious and overwhelmed. I now know that I was angry because I needed more support at home and I needed more positive role models than what I had.”  CLICK to see the rest of her story.
