The green space around UAY is just a little more lively this year, thanks to the many helpers we had on Memorial Day. Members
of West High School's Eco-Centric club along with volunteers Dave Bilskemper, Barbara Connor, Dave Ashton, Janie Jeffries
and Mandy Maass, all under the careful guidance of AmeriCorps Chelsea Bilskemper, planted the flowers and greenery donated
to UAY by Iowa City's Project Green. Volunteers from Southeast Junior High School provided some help with weeding, creating
plots and garbage clean-up earlier this spring while the bulk of the work was done in a few hours on Memorial Day. An especially
huge thanks goes to Dave Bilskemper for supplying tools, hauling and supplying mulch and donating beautiful roses. As well,
many thanks go out to Project Green for their generous donations and help in garden planning, as well as the many UAY staff
members that donated seeds, plants and flowers.
