Young Mom’s Support Groups

Supportive peer networks are created for young parents during weekly group meetings at UAY. Two groups are held each week; the Parents Group is on Tuesday and the Play Group is on Friday. Young parents meet other moms and dads, share their parenting stories, and build important new friendships. Meeting other young parents shows young moms and dads they’re not alone and helps them feel supported.

During the Parent Group meetings, young moms and dads gather important information on personal and parental skill building, participate in fun recreational and craft activities, and listen to speakers on a variety of topics. During the Play Group, parents have time to play and enjoy time with their children while getting to know other families.  Activities vary from going to parks or play areas, to making crafts and participating in fun learning activities at the UAY office.

For attending the meetings, youth receive an incentive, such as diapers, wipes, child toys, or self-care items. Snacks, childcare, and transportation are all available!

Parents Group is held Tuesday evenings and Play Group is held on Friday afternoons. Contact a Teen Parent Family Support Worker at UAY to check on group times and openings.
