Position Title:

Youth Advisory Panel Peer Educator, “YAP’er”

Purpose:

YAP members serve the community throughout the school year by acting as a positive role model; to assist teens in refusal skills needed to abstain; to educate peers about sexual health and responsible decision making; to gain confidence and improve presentation skills; to become more articulate; to enhance leadership ability; and to explore public health and other career opportunities.

Specific Responsibilities:

YAP members are expected to attend a mandatory training session or reschedule with the Health Educator.  Weekly meetings are encouraged. Additional duties include community and school outreach events as they arise, Facebook/Twitter coverage, contributing to monthly Bathroom Buzz Newsletters, and adhering to UAY’s Code of Conduct.

Qualifications:

While YAP is intended to develop these skills, we are looking for energetic and dynamic individuals who are on the path to becoming responsible adults. We are looking for organized youth leaders who demonstrate strong role model behaviors and have competent decision-making and leadership skills. YAP’rs need to be able to work independently with minimal supervision, as many expected opportunities occur outside of regular meeting times. Lastly, YAP members should have proficient written, oral, and presentation skills – or the drive to develop them!
