What you share with a UAY staff person is confidential, whether you are an adult or a teenager. It is important that everyone has someone with whom they can share a concern, tell something private or get ideas on a troublesome situation. Teenagers and their family members can do so at UAY, without information being shared with the rest of your family, your school or others in the community, unless you give written permission.
There are 3 exceptions to this policy:
- CHILD ABUSE: UAY staff must report all forms of child abuse.
- SUICIDE: UAY staff will do everything possible to keep people from hurting themselves. That may mean calling parents, the police or getting someone to the hospital.
- DANGER TO OTHERS: If UAY staff believe there is clear and immediate danger to another person; they will make a report.
