Clothing as Protection
United Action for Youth is requesting submissions of artwork that speaks to the theme of “Clothing as Protection.” The work can be literal, metaphorical, symbolic, or abstract. Safety pins, embroidery, recycled/ altered clothing, poetry, paint, and photography are all acceptable mediums. We are especially interested in artwork that explores the relationship between clothing and the human body, clothing and skin, and/or the way clothing is like a shield that deflects the words, assumptions and stereotypes that people put on each other.
The “Clothing as Protection” exhibition will be on display at the United Action for Youth Gallery Space located at 355 Iowa Avenue from March 5th through April 9th as part of the March 5th Gallery Walk. The show will have an opening reception on Friday, March 5th from 5-8pm.
The “Clothing as Protection” show is open to all junior high and high school students in Johnson County, as well as individuals affiliated with UAY. All interested artists should e-mail a photo of their work to mickey.hampton@unitedactionforyouth.org or call Mickey at 338-7518 to make an appointment.
Submission deadline has been extended to Monday, February 15. Submissions will be selected based on quality, creativity
